Maria Chu, mezzo soprano, received her Bachelor degree of Music in Vocal Performance under the tutelage of Carmen Balthrop at University of Maryland. She is currently the General Music Teacher at Darnestown Elementary School. Ms Chu won the 2015 Rho Psi award for Classical Singing. Ms Chu has sung in productions with the Maryland Opera Studio, including Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites (2018) and Kurt Weil’s Street Scene (2019). She also has sung with the undergraduate opera company, Opera Terps, in their productions of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Patience (2019), Kurt Weil’s Down in the Valley and sang the role of Clara in Pasatieri’s Signor Deluso (2020). She is also a part of the University of Maryland Chamber Singers, known as often collaborators with the National and Baltimore Symphony Orchestras. Chu has been a teacher at the Glorystar Children’s Chorus and has contributed to numerous choral festivals and institutions. She currently the conductor for the Prima choir, the Dolce choir and the Chamber Girls choir. Ms. Chu is an alumni from Glorystar Children's Chorus and has been with Glorystar since she was in 1st grade!
