Maria Chu, mezzo soprano, received her Bachelor degree of Music in Vocal Performance under the tutelage of Carmen Balthrop at University of Maryland. Ms Chu won the 2015 Rho Psi award for Classical Singing. Ms Chu has sung in productions with the Maryland Opera Studio, including Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites (2018) and Kurt Weil’s Street Scene (2019). She also has sung with the undergraduate opera company, Opera Terps, in their productions of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Patience (2019), Kurt Weil’s Down in the Valley and sang the role of Clara in Pasatieri’s Signor Deluso (2020). She is also a part of the University of Maryland Chamber Singers, known as often collaborators with the National and Baltimore Symphony Orchestras. Chu has been a teacher at the Glorystar Children’s Chorus and has contributed to numerous choral festivals and institutions. She is currently the Dolce Choir conductor and Chamber Girls conductor. She also has administrative passions and is currently serving as the Cultural Arts Manager at Ingleside at King Farm.
