Cherie Jeng Music Director, Concert Choir Teacher

Born in Taiwan, Mrs. Jeng attended the Shih-Chien College majoring in piano.  After graduation, she became an accompanist and instructor of musicianship of the Taipei Rong-Shing Children's Chorus, where she worked closely with Professor Chuang-Shien Lu to learn children music education, choral training, and the strategy for inspiring children and developing their music potential.

Mrs. Jeng came to the United States in 1983 and received her Bachelor of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 1987.  Since she moved to the Washington, D.C. area in 1987, she has been active in the music community.  She was the choir director of Our Lady of China Pastoral Mission for ten years and conducted the Hai-Tien Chorus for many seasons.  Recently, she studied choral conducting with Dr. Jerry Blackstone and Dr. Paul Radin and was a guest conductor at the McDaniel College, Westminster, Maryland.  Mrs. Jeng is an active member of both the American Choral Directors Association and the Music Teachers National Association.

Diana V. Sáez Chamber Choir Teacher

Diana V. Sáez is the founder and artistic director of Coral Cantigas, the only chamber choir in the Washington D.C. area dedicated to the performance of choral music from Spain, Latin America and the Caribbean. She was the recipient of the 2003 Tony Taylor Award, presented by the Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington, for her artistic excellence and noticeable assistance to artists in our region. In December 2002 she was awarded the Arts in the Community Award for Excellence 2002, given by the Montgomery County (MD) Executive Douglas Duncan and Discovery Communications, Inc., for her major contribution to the quality of life in Montgomery County through the arts. As member of the American Choral Director’s Association (ACDA) she has presented sessions for their regional and national conventions, and serves as the Maryland Repertoire and Standards chair for Ethnic and Multicultural music. Ms. Sáez frequently serves as guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator. For the last five years she has been one of the presenting artists for the Maryland Artist Teacher Summer Institute (MATI), working on how to integrate the arts into the regular curriculum. A native of Puerto Rico, Diana Sáez earned a Master of Education from Harvard University, and a Master of Choral Conducting from Temple University. She is actually a DMA candidate at the University Of Maryland School Of Music. In addition to Coral Cantigas she is also the music director of the World Bank-IMF Choral Society in Washington, D.C.

Stephen Holmes

Stephen Holmes is currently the Music Director and Tour Manager of the Maryland State Boychoir where he oversees a program of music education and performance for more than 150 boys from throughout the state of Maryland.  He is a graduate of Towson University in Towson, Maryland with a Bachelor of Music degree in voice and organ performance.  At Towson, he also served as assistant director of the University Chorale.

Mr. Holmes has served as a church musician since the age of 13, and has directed music at various churches throughout the Baltimore area.  Most recently he was the Associate Minister of Music/Youth Minister at the Cathedral Church of Saint Matthew and currently serves as Organist/Choir Director at Aisquith Presbyterian Church.  He is the past president of the Towson chapter of the American Choral Directors Association and past vice president of the Towson chapter of the Maryland Music Educators Association.  He is also a member if Sigma Alpha Lambda, a national leadership and honors fraternity.

Mr. Holmes has performed as soloist and chorister with the Washington Bach Sinfonia and the Handel Choir of Baltimore's chamber chorus.  He won first place in the 2000 National Association of Teachers of Singing competition and was named a Maryland Distinguished Scholar by former Governor Parris Glendening.  In 1999, he was awarded the Baltimore County Ethics Award and the Livington-Coulange Award for organists.  He has conducted for various sessions at ACDA and MENC conferences and is active as a guest conductor, accompanist, non-profit consultant, and soloist.  He currently maintains a private voice and piano studio.  In his spare time, he can be seen performing with the Nightowls, a Baltimore based barbershop quartet.

Ming Hsieh Beginner Choir Teacher

Mrs. Hsieh is an experienced early childhood music teacher.  She is a certified Musikgarten instructor, holds Orff-Schulwerk Certification from George Mason University, and is trained in the Dalcroze Eurhythmics and Kodaly music teaching methodologies.  She was a former faculty with the Levine School of Music in Washington, DC and the Academy of Music in Gaithersburg.  She has been a church pianist since 1991 and has conducted the children's choir at her church in Rockville, Maryland.  She is a member of the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association and the Music Teachers National Association.  Mrs. Hsieh holds a bachelor's degree from Tam-Kang University, Taiwan, and a master's degree from State University of New York in Buffalo.

Hai-Bo Bai Vocal Teacher

Ms. Bai has been the vocal teacher of Glorystar since 2002 and has taught vocal techniques since 1986.  Born in Liaoning Province, China, Ms. Bai received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Tianjin Conservatory and the Artist Diploma from The Curtis Institute of Music in 1991.  She also studied with Marlena Malas, Mikael Alison, Sylvia Lee, Todd Duncan and Mary Ann Stabile Cooper.  She has won numerous prizes, awards and fellowships, including the first prize at the 1987 Tianjin Cup of Hope Vocal Competition, the first prize at the 1987 National Competition of China, and the Li Foundation Fellowship Grant.  Ms. Bai made her debut in 1993 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. and has performed extensively in Germany, Italy, Canada, China and the United States.  She has won critical acclaim for her magnificent performances in "Le Nozze di Figaro," "Cosi fan tutte," "La Boheme," "Madama Butterfly," "Tosca," and "Il tabarro."

Pin-Huey Wang Piano Accompanist

Pin-Huey Wang is a doctoral candidate in the collaborative piano program at the University of Maryland, College Park.  Ms. Wang holds her master of music degree from the University of Maryland and bachelor of music degree from National Sun Yat-Sen University in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.  Ms. Wang was granted numerous honors and scholarships during her study.  She received the Wu Juang-Ho Scholarship in Taiwan, a graduate assistantship from University of Maryland, and a full scholarship to the collaborative artists program at the Aspen school of music.  She is a very active collaborative pianist with a wide range of vocal and chamber repertoire.  Before coming to the States, she was the pianist for the Kaohsiung Opera workshop where she performed several opera productions, such as Pagliacci and Cavalleria Rusticana.  In 1998, she came to the United States to further her studies and subsequently had many concert engagements.  Among her recent performances were a concert with soprano Carmen Balthrop at the National Concert Hall, Taipei; Sound of Taiwan Concert Series ~ The Root at Wheaton Presbyterian Church, Maryland, a concert with Finish Soprano-Riikka Hakola at Embassy of Finland and a concert with Washington Sangerbund at Embassy of Austria, Washington DC.  Ms. Wang has worked with the Maryland opera studio from 1998 to 2003 and has been the pianist for the Maryland Chorus, University Chorale, and Maryland Chamber Singers from 2003 to 2005.  She was also the pianist and organist at St. Luke Episcopal Church, Bladensburg, Maryland from 2000 to 2005.  Beside the performance, Ms. Wang is a very active and experienced piano teacher.  She has held a private piano studio since 1993.  She is a member of American College of Musicians and Music Teachers National Association.  She has also taught at the Kaohsiung Christian College, Chian-Jin Junior High School and Feng-Shan primary school from 1995 to 1997.

Te-Wen Hsu Piano Accompanist

Ms. Te-Wen Hsu was twice the first prize winner of trombone solo performance in the Taiwan Regional Music Competitions. She received a scholarship for “Exceptional Musical Achiever” in the Department of Music Education, National Taipei Teachers College, and obtained Orff-Schulwerk Certification from Eastman School of Music. Ms. Hsu was the piano accompanist for Buffalo Chinese Chorus for two years and for Hua Xia Chorus (formerly the Gaithersburg Chinese Chorus) for three years.

Carol Tseng Piano Accompanist

Carol Tseng is a choir assistant for the Beginner choir.  She is the director of two children's choirs for the Chinese Bible Church of Maryland at Rockville.  She was also the choir director for the combined Chinese/English adult choir at CBCM for several years.  Currently she is the coordinator of the English congregation Praise Team and is also a Worship Leader.  She studied piano and violin through high school and was a member of the Maryland Youth Symphony.  She has also studied voice with Elizabeth Daniels and Melissa Coombs.  Carol is a mechanical engineer at the Naval Surface Warfare Center and holds degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Maryland.
